“We want to make sure that we can provide as much support to the kids at both the elementary and secondary levels while they’re doing i-Ready and Edgenuity,” Gordon said.Īs for how school in the fall will look, Gordon said everyone’s focus now is on revising budgets and then following guidelines to use the federal CARES Act money, and potentially HEROES Act money. In his recent Facebook Live chat, Gordon said he received more positive comments about Edgenuity than negative, but said he is open to making some quick fixes to it for the start of school in the fall once he receives the results of a survey that will go out June 8-12. “it’s basically mandatory summer school” for elementary students who have low math and reading scores, Gordon said.įor secondary students, seniors who are short credits for graduation will be prioritized ahead of others wanting to take a class. He said elementary school principals have given him a preliminary list of students who are likely to be retained to form the basis for summer school on that level. Gordon said summer school applications would be going out soon and said there would be a teacher for every 10 to 12 students to support them. “The great thing about i-Ready, based on how kids perform in their mini-assessments, it’ll actually tailor their instruction so that kids are getting individualized learning plans,” Gordon said. While Canvas does not have an assessment program, i-Ready does.
#VIRTUAL VIRGINIA SUMMER COURSES FOR FREE#
The state, in its partnership with Virtual Virginia, is allowing its use for free to school divisions for the next two years. Information about the program and course selection is available at or see your school counselor.It will provide a one-stop shop for the division’s educational resources, something Gordon had when he worked in Chesterfield County. Students who fail to login over a 30 calendar day period will be administratively dropped from the course. Students in Virtual Virginia courses who wish to drop a course must withdraw within 21 calendar days from the first day of the course. Students enrolling in Virtual Virginia who are participants in the Early College Scholars program will have tuition and Advanced Placement examination fees for any Virtual Virginia Advanced Placement course paid by the Department of Education. Students are enrolled in Virtual Virginia when there is a scheduling conflict and must be enrolled by the counselor and approved by the principal. VDOE Virtual Virginia Advanced Placement School (4x4 Block Online Course Offerings) The cost of all courses will be posted on the school division website. Contact your building principal concerning costs. Prices vary depending upon courses and availability. In other situations, the cost of an on-line course is the responsibility of the student/parent/guardian. The cost of these courses shall be the responsibility of the school division. The school division will contract with an online vendor to offer courses that may not be available due to scheduling conflicts that prevent the class(es) from being offered during the regular school setting. All online and off campus courses must be pre-approved by the building principal.
